The Trumpet is West Liberty University’s college newspaper, that was going to be celebrating their 100thyear anniversary. Our collaborative design team created a new logo, a 100th year celebratory logo, and section icons for each category throughout the newspaper. For this logo design we incorporated a newspaper and a trumpet into the icon to create brand recognition across all platforms. Black, Gold, and White were chosen to match the WLU branding and ensure our logo was cohesive with the colleges overall branding guidelines. “Voice on the Hilltop” was included on the banner as the slogan to promote the inclusivity between the students and the paper. Our section icons represent news, culture, opinion, and sports. We created simple icons that would make each section recognizable, even without the title next to it. Each icon matches the color already used by The Trumpet for each section to allow easy reading. We designed our logo with a specific style to ensure it would hold up overtime, so it will still be just as relevant when they are celebrating their 200th year anniversary. Our logos and icons were up against two other teams, and ours was chosen as the official designs for the West Liberty University Trumpet. ​​​​​​​
